I manage a staff of 24 talented full-time journalists and oversee sports coverage at 10 publications across McClatchy's Southeast region, including The Charlotte Observer, Raleigh News & Observer and The State in Columbia, S.C. Our daily mission is to find and tell the best stories using the most effective medium possible, which means constantly innovating and evaluating our approach with the written word, video, podcasts and interactive storytelling.

In five years, I worked my way up from an entry-level position to managing the sports department and turning it into a nationally respected publication focused on community outreach and digital storytelling, including virtual reality and podcasts. In 2016, the only publications to receive more Associated Press Sports Editors awards – the “Oscars” of sports journalism – than my team at The Coloradoan were The New York Times, The Washington Post and The Seattle Times.
Before becoming editor, I was a national award-winning investigative reporter and sports columnist at the paper.
